Romans 16
What jumped out at me?
Verse 10a “ 10 For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
Why It Jumped Out?
As a Christian, I am often tempted to wish that Adam had done a different thing. I usually fail to realize that had I been in Adam’s shoes, I too would have failed humanity.
So, verse 10a informs that we were God’s enemies. That means He was not pleased with mankind, including me, and unfortunately, I wasn’t pleased either, so I searched for alternatives and accepted sin in my life.
Jesus, who knew no sin came to defeat the works of the devil and was contrary to my way of thinking. His ways and thoughts are Higher than mine. So, I believe that during those “sinful” days, I too would not have liked Jesus. I would not have recognized Him as Love but would have seen Him trying to change a stubborn, arrogant, unruly and carnal man.
Therefore, I am appreciating that while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through Jesus’ giving of His life in order to please the Father, who is love. Then, I would not have done that for Him, but He did it for me.
He has taught me to die unto myself, and taught me to love Him. We love Him, because He first loved us, according to 1 John 4:19.
He perfectly demonstrated that we too can love our enemies as He has instructed.
How this changes my life
I am more dependent upon Him than I ever realized, and I am grateful. He is far deeper, wider, higher, stronger, more caring and loving than I can perceive. So, I should be able to trust Him with everything, especially since He saves lives, including my own.
Prayer
- God, Thank You. I am glad that you are far greater, closer, aware and active than I can imagine. I am thankful that you are Lord and are faithful to your Words. Thank you for your precious Son who gave His life to reconcile us that we get to receive your Presence and Your Love. Thank you for many blessings too.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
