2 Thessalonians
1 Timothy 6
What jumped out at me?
Verse 4-5: 4 Therefore, among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.5 All this is evidence that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering.
Verse 11: 11 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith.
Why it Jumped Out
The church at Thessalonica had adapted to a positive stance in their suffering, which please Paul and seemingly God. Many modern churches are in simple challenges amongst each other and enjoy many commodities the world has to offer.
Through verse 11, I am reminded that it is God who makes us worthy of His calling. Anyone can try to fulfill the gifts described in Ephesian 4:11, but it is God who creates ministry and the minister.
I am reminded that Paul often defended his Apostleship in Christ who was called to preach the Gospel to the Gentiles. I appreciate his defensive position.
How this changes my life
- I am reminded that when suffering God spoke to me that “I am His Minister.” Therefore, I did not create what God has done in my life, nor did I create those He healed and received. I am to follow His lead and not follow this carnal world.
Prayer
- Father, thank you for your Word and Holy Spirit who guides us into righteousness. You are the potter and I am the clay.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
