Acts 2
What jumped out at me?
Verses 7-10 7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? 8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. 9 And do not think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. 10 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
Why It Jumped Out?
While baptizing, John saw the Pharisees coming towards him. John spoke to them! He addressed them with a conviction-based boldness and insinuated their immediate need for salvation, their ignorance to it and instruction to continually repent. What a strong, meaningful rebuke! Then, John offered correction about their confidence Abraham versus them needing confidence in God’s promise to Abraham.
How this changes my life
- As a leader in the church, I can see that it is easy to slip into sin by judging people, having favoritism, loving money, manipulating people and things. I don’t ever want to hurt anyone. So, this reminds me to approach each day, person and scenario with an open heart, open eyes and to be quicker to listen, pray and respond, Lord Willing.
Prayer
- Father, thank you for your Holy Word. You provide instruction, correction, reproof and so much more to us through it. May Your words always be at work within my heart, my mind, my tongue, so that I may participate in the things of God by Your Spirit and according to Your pleasure, as You have provided them for our needs. Thank you for everything that is Holy,
In Jesus Name, Amen.
